Meet Alexa + Wes, the owners of Oakwood Photo + Video:
Hey everyone! It’s been a while since i’ve done a personal blog post about Wes & I, so I figured now would be a good time! I started Oakwood Photography when I was in high school. I loved photographing nature & animals. I always said that photographing people was something I never did. I gave it a try and absolutely fell in love! There’s something so special about being able to capture a persons emotions & beauty. I started photographing seniors in 2012, the same year I met Wes. I was asked to shoot a wedding and figured i’d give it a try. I taught him how to operate a camera and the basics of photography and he started second shooting for me once he was comfortable with it. He has been by my side at every wedding since that first day.
Wes has always loved creating little short films (ask him about Bambi’s Revenge) and decided to give wedding videography a try, and just like me, he fell in love with the art. We decided that it would be awesome to start photographing & filming weddings together since our photos & video had a style that complimented one another. We got married in July of 2015 and decided to merge our businesses together, creating Oakwood Photo + Video. It has been such a fun, crazy adventure together and we look forward to everything the future holds.
In our free time, we love binge watching shows on netflix, listening to music (we love bands like Bright Eyes, Ben Howard, Death Cab for Cutie, & so on), hanging out with family, and stuffing our faces with pizza. During the week, Wes teaches social studies for a cyber school. We currently live about 20 minutes north of Pittsburgh and love exploring the area. Pittsburgh is seriously the coolest city & we feel so fortunate to have so many gorgeous places to photograph!
