Katya + Jay: A Succop Conservancy Wedding, Butler, PA – Friday, June 5th

Katya and Jay met while studying in St. Petersburg, Russia. Katya told me that Jay was a huge answered prayer. “I went to Russia, I was worried about not having much in common with my classmates, so I asked God to send me one Christian friend who’d go to church with me. I never expected to have the privilege of marrying him, but I guess when God wants to bless you, he doesn’t hold back.”

Katya and Jay had a gorgeous wedding at Succop Conservancy in Butler, PA. During their outdoor ceremony, it started to get really windy and you could tell there was a big storm rolling in. Right as the ceremony was finishing up and the newlyweds were making their way back down the aisle, it started raining. It downpoured for around 30 minutes or so during cocktail hour while everyone was inside of the mansion and cleared up just in time for portraits of the two of them. By the time the reception was getting started, the sun was back out! The reception was so much fun…they even preformed a choreographed first dance. Instead of doing a traditional bouquet toss, Katya held onto a bouquet of chocolate roses with strings attached. Each woman grabbed a string and walked circles around her. She had scissors & cut the strings one by one. Whoever had the remaining string attached got the chocolate! I love the idea of doing something unique like that instead of the traditional bouquet toss! I loved the little details they used for their wedding. They used Russian Nesting Dolls painted to look like them as the cake topper. HOW COOL IS THAT? It was adorable and one of the most creative cake toppers i’ve seen! The bridesmaids carried books rather than flowers, which was also a beautiful, unique detail to the day. It was an honor getting to photograph their wedding and to be a part of their big day. I’ve been looking forward to blogging their wedding since the evening we got back from shooting it.
